Music Magazine: Artist Profile

Music Magazine: Exploration of artists of R&B - Music Videos

Here are some music videos from the artists that I have looked at this is a taste of their music and style as although they are all R&B artists they are all very different in their own individual ways for example Jay Sean and Drakes music are quite different as drakes music is more current as he also raps in some of his music where as Jay Sean music sounds a lot different in comparison. Their cultural background also influences their music as Jay Sean has an Asian background he has produced some asain music/ music vibe as well as his original British music Drake: R Kelly: TheWeeknd: Jay Sean:

Music Magazine: Audience focus group - Part 2

This is my focus group where I had asked these two students a few questions to get a feel of what my target audience likes in a music magazine and questions relating to the genre I have chosen.

The questions that I had asked were:
1.)Who is your favorite R&B artist and why?
2.)Do you listen to more female or male R&B artists? anyone in particular?
3.) What kind of information would you like to see on a music magazine front cover that would make you want to buy the magazine?
4.) What information would you like to know about an R&B artist in an interview?

Music Magazine: Research Rationale

I plan to produce an RnB music magazine to which the target audience that I have chosen to make my music magazine for is from 16+ as I have a large access to people of this age. I go to a sixth form where the ages rage from 16-18 but I also access to people from outside of school who are much younger and older too so when doing my market research I can get feedback from all ages.I think that by using my age group as my target audience puts me at an advantage as I am able to relate to others and have more of an understanding of which magazine type interests them.

I will do a market research where my aim will be to gather information that I could use to help create my music magazine to be of interest to my target audience. I will gather this information by asking survey questions to a group of people that will help me to get a rough idea of peoples opinions on things such as for example; "how much you would pay for a music magazine?"

With this information I hope to ensure that I will get a rough idea of the type of magazine my target audience would like to see and read and this should help to get a better understanding and know all the key elements into making sure that I create something to make my magazine most successful.

Music Magazine: Magazine Typography

This is my Magazine Typography. Here I have selected multiple music magazine masthead examples and merged them together into a mood board. Most of these fonts are quite easy to read and stand out very clearly such as Vibe, Beat, XXL, Spin, Clash, Q. All of theses fonts are big and bold which makes it a lot easier for readers to see/read and is mostly likely to attract them more where as on the other hand magazines such as 'Kerrang' is a lot more harder to read because of the font and style in which it is presented makes it harder to read straight away. As you can see there are lines that cover the letters and the letter A is also quite hard to read as it is blanked out.

I really like how 'Stoned' magazine is presented as it is bold so you can see it clearly but also slightly blurred which represented the meaning of being stoned. However the blurriness does mess with my eyes but i like that it relates to the text. I also like how 'Rolling Stone' is presented as the font is written in a way where it looks like the text is actually rolling. When I create my music magazine I wish to take inspiration form these as I like the way it links.

The serifs used in 'Choir&Organ' magazine relate to the house style of the magazine as choirs are very neat, organised and do everything in sync and therefore their magazine is quite formal like this too and the serifs help represent this as I believe that serifs show organisation and that it looks quite posh. The font is also quite large, thin and spaced out and all this together also helps show who the target audience is for as the neat representation shows that it would be for an older audience where as if you compare ti to the magazine 'Top of the Pops' the text is quite funky and colourful showing that this is more for a younger audience.

Music Magzine Deconstruction

This is my magazine deconstruction.. I chose to deconstruct Vibe magazine as it predominantly features R&B and Hip Hop music artists which I have decided that R&B will be the genre that I will chose to base my music magazine on.

Music Magazine Moodboard

This is my moodboard that I have created showing some key examples of different magazine styles. The 4 that I chose to look at are Q magazine, NME, Billboard, MOJO. Each of these magazines present different styles of music and they all present themselves in different way such as billboard where there is hardly any text on the front cover compared to Q magazine where there is a lot of text on the page.
